Gateway in Guatemala

Friday we spent the day at the Dump where 11,000 people live & 7,000 of them are children. Yes they live at the dump & they live off of the dump. It is hard to put into words the smell of the trash, the mothers, the fathers, the children they live in, on & around garbage every day. One sad part about it is they don't know any different. That is one of the main things Potters House
(the organization that we worked with to minister to the people) is trying to change, how the people see themselves & how they can make it better for themselves. The pictures are of one of the three teams, at the second place we went to (the picture of Myra's father & the three women) The one on the right had shared that she was a Christian & asked us to pray for her mother & sister they were not Christians, we did, as soon as the prayer was over Hosa began to tell them the plan of salvation. He lead them to Christ right there right then in the middle of their dirty, trash filled home. God was there with us moving & blessing. He told them that when one accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior even the Angels in heaven rejoiced so there was a lot of rejoicing going on. As Emily, Bill, myself & Charla looked on, we were so blessed & a little amazed at his bold courage to speak to them about Christ & not hesitate to ask "Do you want to accept Jesus as your Savior?" I don't speak Spanish but I knew what he was saying & it was a beautiful thing he knew they needed Christ more than they needed even the food we had brought them. They cried, we cried and the Angels REJOICED! In the afternoon we went out again 3 teams of 4 or 5 went to build stoves for three families in another area of the Dump. It is an understatement to say I am blessed, God has once again reminded me, to those who much is given much is expected not just in Guatemala but where ever I am, whether it be a hug, a smile, money or a kind word, I am to be looking & serving him every day, his mission field is whereever we are, Blue Springs, Independence , Lenexa, Lee's Summit, Peru, Jamaica or Guatemala he calls us to the ends of the earth and that starts right where we are.
